Appleseed DVD

Post by qbard » Fri May 06, 2005 7:43 pm

I recently watched the new Appleseed DVD (bet that surprised you; given the subject line of this).

There is a fair bit of fembot content, is this.

I picked it up for the quality and type of animation they experiemented with in this; but ultimately bought it after watching my friends copy BECAUSE of the gynoid / fembot content.

This is not however an exact retelling of the series that shares it's name; " based upon" should be taken, as exactly that. It has ALOT more gynoid / fembot content than the books it was based on.

I highly recomend this DVD to anyone who is looking for a story that has some QUALITY fembot / gynoid scenes in it.

What happens in the gynoid-related scenes? I'd like to know if it's good enough for me to buy, too. ;-)

There is an 'ambush'; where the lead female character is attacked in a alley by some silvery nanowire wielding gynoids. The fight lasts for a few minutes with with a number of parts of them being smashed. (in matrix like bullet time)

Hitomi, one of the main characters is a clone (or born in a test tube), but due to the way she acts and is treated in the movie itself (avoiding spoiler here), she comes accross as being a very convincing 'gynoid wannabe'.

There are no' start up or shut down' sequences, and there is a heathly amount of realistic gore, (cyborg hands on human head <squeeze> for example), so if that is what you are after or if you are quemish you might want to rent before buying.

POINTS:
There is a plot that involves Hitomi who was described above, which some people on this board will like.

This while having far less gynoid content than say PARASITE DOLLS (the content of the alley fight alone put the movie over PARASITE DOLLS; IMHO), it does have a classier sci-fi feel to it, 'blade runner', and it does not leave you missing the 'gynoid content' when its not there

The animation, 3D cell shaded, the backgrounds, which are almost photo quality, make for an very pretty movie.

There is th alley fight scene which to be honest , I'm going to be watching a few more times til I get sick of it . It was THAT cool and the silver effects on the cyborgs ... well .....very pretty.

If you can, rent it first. I liked the plot and would have enjoyed it even without the gynoid content. Unlike PARASITE DOLLS that left me, thinking I paid $$$ for this content? This DVD was worth the time and $$$ I spent on it. :D :D :o :o :D :D

PARASITE DOLLS that left me, thinking I paid $$$ for this content?
My thoughts exactly after I watched it.

I hope to be able to rent first before buying next time. The thing is I don't know of any decent place that has good selection of anime for rent.
Thanks for the review tho, I'll be on the look out.

I actually liked Parasite Dolls a lot. I thought the story was very well done. But really hoping to find this.
