"Does Not Compute"

I haven't seen this mentioned here but I probably saw the actual television show a couple of times:

According to the article, My Living Doll (which starred Julie Newmar as the fembot) originated the phrase "that does not compute".
"You can believe me, because I never lie and I'm always right." -- George Leroy Tirebiter.

There's a few episodes and clips of this show on youtube and dailymotion. Julie Newmar (better known for being Catwoman in the old Batman show) does an amazing job as Rhoda.

Unfortunatly I also read somewhere that most of the episodes are now lost. =(

It'd be great if anyone with some copies of episodes of this seres would share! ;)

I looked it up, actually. And the first TV show to use the phrase was indeed My Living Doll, where it later caught on as one of the catchphrases of Robby the Robot on the show Lost In Space.

However, one of the first uses of the CONCEPT was used by Issac Asimov in the short story Liar!.
"If the time should ever come when what is now called science, thus familiarized to men, shall be ready to put on, as it were, a form of flesh and blood, the Poet will lend his divine spirit to aid the transfiguration, and will welcome the Being thus produced, as a dear and genuine inmate of the household of man."

I had never heard of this sitcom prior to this thread. I watched clips of it and I thought it was great. Newmar's portrayal of the AF 709 is adorable! Of course something like that would never make it onto TV nowadays.

I only have the first four or six episodes of MY LIVING DOLL..but for some reason, I remember reading in the credits that HOWARD LEEDS' name is listed... he was later involved with such shows as THE BRADY BUNCH, but he also was the main wheel behind 'SMALL WONDER" .....which is pretty much a retooled 'MY LIVING DOLL" for the 80's. --minkwheel
