No one is proposing adding or subtracting any conversations from FC - just moving some, but they'll still be as convenient to read.
Categories mean segregation, at least while FC resides on this BBS. Segregation seems like singling out; but I believe this case is not "political". Other times, the motives or the results definitely have been about identity or tone.
We could vote on print vs. video, though I don't see the advantage. Most people like both, so I don't see a strong parallel to the Anime question.
If no other proposed categories would have frequent enough posts to warrant their own sub-forum, we needn't be concerned about a spiral into separatist fracturing of FC, or of a long and confusing list of topics developing on the home page.

I fully understand your point and trust me I thought about it long before I posted the suggestion.Kishin wrote:I'm a little wary of the issue.
If we break down anime/manga into a sub-topic, then why stop there? Why not sub-topic: pr0n, feature films, shorts, comics (non-manga), etc?
Then we'll sub categorize even further: face offs, open panels, seams, metallic, etc.
Let's think about this: Is sub categorizing really a good thing? Because once we open the door on this its not going to be closed.
Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but lets make informed decisions about this and understand the ramifications of what is being proposed.
There just seems to be a lot of interest in it and an overwhelming amount of readily available content that it dominates a few of the categories as it is. That's not a bad thing, it's good that there is content available for those who want it. I just thought having it in a category of it's own makes it convenient for those who do enjoy it and let's others who may not care as much for it know that they can bypass that section.
Sub categorization is a tricky issue, I'm sure everyone would like to have their own favorites singled out. I'm only suggesting this because of the volume of posts pertaining to this category. You guys do an awesome job administering the board and as far as I know we really haven't had too many (any?) calls for expansion of topics before. Compared to most boards regardless of content, we do seem to have a pretty level headed group without much drama. I doubt too much that there is going to be an onslaught of "but...but...but...anime got it's own category why can't we have one for gynoid toe removal and repair".
Like I said in the original post, it's just an idea, whether it gets implemented or not I'm still thankful for the resource you guys provide.

I voted yes because for me, and apparently for many others, anime and manga simply don't hold any appeal. Japanese live-action films ... good chance I'll be interested. Western-style comics and animation ... good chance I'll be interested. But for whatever reason, Japanese comics and cartoons ... 0% chance I'll be interested.
Because there has been a major uptick in the amount of manga and anime being posted to the forum recently, I would definitely appreciate it if it was all in its own category so that I could happily ignore it.
Though it should go without saying, I mean no offense at all to all those who really enjoy anime and manga.

I think categorisation is a good idea, so long as the submitted content belongs only to the one category. I'm not a huge face-off fan, but if some content featured a malfunctioning android (a category of which I am a BIG fan) and her face happened to fall off, I'd still be interested in seeing it. If the content was posted under 'face offs', I might fail to look and find it.
A manga/anime category seems broad enough that all of the content would be able to belong to that one category.
By the way, I realise no-one is suggesting 'face-off' and 'malfunction' categories - I just mention them to demonstrate the point.

I'm indifferent towards this. I'll vote for the losing side
.
Either way I'm still getting my stuff out there
. ... but then if anime gets a section of their own. ... does that mean the anime board would be like a combination of the image, report, and discussion board combined?

Either way I'm still getting my stuff out there

I think if everyone who posts a link would simply take the time to provide a one- or two-sentence summary, it would go a long way toward addressing this issue. When someone just puts up a URL with no context -- or something completely non-descriptive like "Has anybody seen this?" -- it's impossible for anyone to know what to expect.fection wrote:I think categorisation is a good idea, so long as the submitted content belongs only to the one category. Bonus points for anyone posting a video link who accompanies the link with a screen capture.

Reading this after the poll was closed, I would have voted yes for the opposite reason:keraptis wrote:I voted yes because for me, and apparently for many others, anime and manga simply don't hold any appeal. There are some very nice anime and manga with cyborg/fembot content, while the reports in other categories are often a bit disappointing.
So I welcome the decision to put the anime/manga reports in their own category. To me it is like a concentration of good stuff
