No way to tell if someone is online and all?

I used YM for my online play, but with no way to know if someone is there, it’s useless.

Anyone got a better app suggestion? I’d prefer one I can use on my PC more than my phone.

Of course, then the challenge is tracking down my old playmates and telling them about the new app.

Actually, yes, there is a web client. http://web.skype.com Though your mileage may vary. I was using it on my android device, but in the desktop mode, as they claimed it wasn't available on Android Chrome yet.

Ah, yes, but it requires you to sign up with an existing phone number (sends you a code via sms I think). That's a 100% no-go for me.

So, I haven't been required to put in a phone number yet (I know a LOT of the services are moving in that direction). It may be because I'm grandfathered in, but try looking for a "skip" link or button.

For an unknown reason, it did not request a phone number after sending the code this time. So, yes, I can use Skype for web now. If anyone is interested to play with me, drop a message.
