Where is the threshold? What is sufficient to go beyond "in name only"?

It's easy to find the GINO situation in porn, where whatever the nominal plot context, the purpose is to get down to the act.

Outside of porn, a female robot is going to be written with some kind of traits, phrases, incidents that signify she's a robot. Otherwise, she's a wasted opportunity.

In name only:
  • no damage, no inside views.
  • no personality glitches
  • no super strength, wifi-ESP
  • ...

GINOs are possibly found here.

- Sleepers don't count. These are "Named" as gynoids, though they don't show it.
- There might be some which are GINO up to a point in the story, and then the signifiers kick in.

The worst I have ever seen was Dracula 3000. The character played by Erika Eleniak (nice on the eyes) was revealed to be an android the end, would have been great to see her malfunction or something, otherwise a really bad movie.

Battlestar Galactica - except what we really want is

[dangle-dangle, shiny thing, look here she's a robot]
then she never does anything robot.

BG Cylons weren't ever going to malfunction like Cherry 2000, or detach a limb. If they had "acted robot", it would only have been an act.

BG - Gynoid.in.Theology.Only ["name" is a given, or else nothing's being named]
? - Gynoid.in.Damage.Only
? - Gynoid.in."Super-powers".Only

I'd also say how they act is a factor too. If they're so good at mimicking a human's personality and behavior that they're indistinguishable from a human's they may as well be human if there's nothing else that might give away their true nature.

Hell, IMO even that isn't always enough since if the appearance is the only thing making them robotic then they may as well be human women in costumes.
