Okay, guys... I really can't believe there hasn't been more discussion of Siri on this board. I mean, personally, I think this is an incredible development. There's already speculation that Siri will soon be able to pass the Turing Test:

And I believe it: the thing is a natural language database gathering an increasingly, unimaginably huge number of inputs every single day. I wouldn't be at all surprised if what results gives rise to much of the next generation of programmed AI.
Is anyone here rushing out to buy the new iPhone just for Siri?

Re: Siri
Won't Siri be able to fake it earlier,
unless the typical user playing Turing
is sufficiently rigorous at running Turing tests?
Won't we have nearly the same useful tool,
at some point before Siri passes a legit evaluation?
As a mental discipline, and tool to be practiced and honed,
isn't it better for us to give Siri more credit, earlier than it deserves?
or do we need to spot the sudden emergence of Wisdom from Siri responses,
before we trust "her" to read the crowd-sourced collective experience?

Re: Siri
I'm using Siri right now to dictate this post to you guys. I am loving my new iPhone 4S! I don't think Siri can pass to Turing test yet but I don't think it will be too long before they collect enough data for that sort of thing to be reality. She's not perfect yet, I still have to correct some words, but she is really impressive. I love to use the Siri interface. It's fun to ask her silly questions and see what things she comes up with. Maybe after her AI learns more, she'll finally accept my proposals
