FembotCentral mentioned on Cracked!

Post by PsychoKirby » Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:28 pm

I know the Off-Topic board probably isn't the right place for this, but I wasn't really sure where it belonged, and I thought it was best here.

(WARNING: This article contains various insults towards each of the fetishists listed, including ours. Just remember it's a comedy site and try not to take it too seriously. For all we know, we could have some new ASFRians joining the site because of this article. Also, the article links to a "representative website" for each of the fetishes listed. I haven't looked at any of them, except this one, obviously, but I assume none of them are work-safe. The article itself probably shouldn't be considered work-safe either.)

I suppose there's no such thing as bad publicity, although I do wish they were a little more accurate in their statements. Still, the whole article's pretty funny, and worth a look.

Thanks for the move, Robotman.

And despite the ignorance in their statements, I've heard worse. A lot of people seem to equate "wanting to have sex with humanoid robots" to "wanting to have sex with anything and everything mechanical", thus resulting in BS like "So you're turned on by toasters?"

I get angry just looking at a toaster because of crap like that. :x

Well, the "F" in ASFR does stand for "fetish," so we're already targets, in a way. Fetishists are like cult-followers; not quite in the mainstream. Personally, I don't see lovers of fembots as mere "fetishists;" we're actually lovers of the female form - a big difference. I've always approached the fascination with that thought firmly in the back of my mind. And actual history is riddled with mechanical interpretations of feminine beauty; from ships, to planes, to cars, and even trains. The true roots of this "fetish" are actually quite mainstream - and have been since at least the time of Homer!

I look at the big picture this way - to somebody who understands the fembot mystique, no explanation is necessary. To somebody who doesn't, no explanation is possible.

Let he who won't lease a gynoid wife in 2035 who looks like a supermodel and will do anything for you at the mere price of $10,000 a year, or maybe $100 for a day - cast the first stone.

We're just ahead of our time.
I don't even see how ASFR qualifies as a "fetish" by the conventional internet usage. (weird shit that most people don't find sexy) ;)

It's like saying "I have a naked lady fetish"

My god, didnt they get this one wrong
FembotCentral.com, a message board with more than 1,000 members, we're assuming 75 percent of whom are claiming to be robots.
just shows how little clue they have I guess?

I doubt even if you included all that want to be robots given the chance that we'd hit 5%!
I'm just a 'girl' who wants to become a fembot whats wrong with that?

You're taking it much too seriously. Cracked is a funny site. However, every article about everything you know they're going to exaggerate / lie for comedy reasons. In the end it's all for lols.

Besides, we're a weird bunch of peeps anyways.

taken out of context.

ASFR covered a large bunch of fetishes that have spread out into different communities.

There are the avant-garde types who get off on gold/silver/rubber skin, which I definitly do not go for. Movies like Robogeisha probably add to the confusion.

Fembotcentral is about very human looking fembots.

Since the allure of convincingly human fembots doesn't make for a quick punchline ( but does seem to stimulate psychosexual critiques ) they ignored that and focused on the folks who have a ( just my opinion ) wierd fascination with rosie the robot or heartbeeps.

With all due respect, no it's not.

My sense is that this forum's founders, mods, and leaders, for the most part, are biased toward the statement above. But to their credit, they have never attempted to limit the scope of the discussion on this forum. This community is small enough as it is ... an overly narrow definition of what ASFR "is about" would be a bad idea.

It it's the intent of the founders, mods, and leaders, one would think that this would encompass what the site is "about." But, just because the site may be "about" that particular focus of ASFR, doesn't exclude discussion (or highlighting) of other aspects.

However, I think the point DrFranklin was trying to make was that the Cracked article somewhat misrepresents technosexuality - This site isn't about little wheeled box-robots humping each other, or hot Tachikoma-on-Tachikoma action. We don't write stories about strong-spirited men dominating their subservient Roombas, or the secret desires of car-assembly-robot arms. Even those in our group who enjoy more mechanized-looking fembots prefer humanoid fembots: Two arms, two legs, recognizably female.

The Cracked guys actually seem to go out of their way to "not understand" tehnophilia. Compare their "but why?" section for the other four fetishes with those for the ASFR section. Perhaps it's my imagination, but I'm reminded of the Shakespeare quote: Methinks the man doth protest too much.

It does show the fembot concept is going mainstream.
Does it show rejection, or a kind of tentative acceptance?
More people may soon see it as useful....

Run it up the flagpole and if enough people salute it's acceptance.

The styling of the fembot is unimportant, but certainly I think we'd all agree that no matter how sexy our car is we're not having dreams about getting it on with it.
I agree with that.

I'm just saying, there are some of us (myself included) for whom Sorayama's chrome-plated sexy robots were among the first ASFR images that made our eyes pop out. Definitely humanoid, but not fully human-looking (and IMHO the sexiest of those pin-ups are the "hybrids" in which Sorayama put human faces on chrome bodies).

I responded to the earlier post simply because it seemed to dismiss a significant segment of our community as "avant-garde types who get off on gold/silver/rubber skin," and to imply that such imagery falls outside what this forum is "about."

No big deal, I think most everyone's on the same page here.

I suppose it could have been more insulting. But not by much.
