Open panels can be done without actually showing inside the panel. Imagine a 3/4 profile shot of your head, facing the camera at an angle. Visually, the effect can be carried off by mounting a small LED light (or rapid-strobe LED lapel pin) in your hair, just out of the camera's view. The light goes on when the "panel" is meant to be open, and off when the "panel" is closed. No actual panels or prosthetics are required.Brianna 1365 Gamma wrote:Ideally we'd have a way to have AK or another female put new chips in my head for personalities, but I don't think we can pull off that kind of special effects.
It will look cheesy and wrong without sound effects, but with some sort of effect (a whirring when the panel opens/closes, an "eject" noise for the chip, a noticeable change in your speech/behavior) it will look more convincing.
One other piece of advice: Agree on an off-camera signal for things like deactivation, reprogramming, etc. If AK has to announce that he's pushing the power button, and it takes a few seconds for you to notice that you should "deactivate," it won't look as convincing.

That said, there are many talented CG artists wanting to show what they can do around the place. Try CGSociety for one. Here's an effects shot done by a friend in one of my movies. Just remember that for low budget stuff, a static shot will be way easier to work with than a moving camera

You don't need Hollywood level effects to sell the story, if your story is good to begin with.
I'm keeping an eye on this sort of stuff here, since I have the means to do it here in Japan if there's enough interest.
Best of luck and good on you for having the courage to share your personal lives in such a public way.
Cheers from Tokyo, robot capital of the world!!!

Assuming you're in california, you're on the wrong coast for me to volunteer my services as an actor. That said, if you need any voice over or voice acting from a male baritone, do let me know. I have good equipment and I do quality work.
EDIT:
Whoawhoawhoa! You're on the east coast? And here I was just assuming you (like everyone else at times) were FAR away. I wonder if you're close enough that I COULD try to make it up or down your way for this if the stars can align right.
