The book does mention Ellie's bizarre behaviors often and how Challis notices them and shrugs them off with rationalizations (the novel is totally from Challis' viewpoint). He notes her strange eyes, waxy skin, trusting nature, tirelessness, and other small subtleties that we gynoid lovers would pick up on as signs of being a robot.

I had that suspicion too about this strangest-Halloween-movie-of-them-all. Those additions from the book certainly cinch it for me. Maybe another viewing is in order ... too bad otherwise it isn't all that great a movie. But then again, I've watched worse.
