I think we should add "Not being afraid to fully embrace the superhero genre". In Batman Begins, Bats lets Ra's die. In Man of Steel, Superman snaps Zod's neck. That's not something I'm particularly fond of in superhero movies. In the Marvel movies, though? They go out of their way to show the characters saving lives and generally being decent people in light of the "hard choices".
