Help on learning the manip "how to"

Help on learning the manip "how to"

Hi! I'd like to try and learn how to make manips, as a way to give back to this wonderful community. I don't have much of experience with photoshop, so no promises... just wanting to learn something new.

So, right I'm stuck at creating realistic (as in "not poorly hand drawn") seams. I tried to guess that you first define a path, and then apply the brush with medium opacity? But it doesn't look very good.

If anybody could give me a hint, it would be really appreciated ;)

(BTW i tried using gimp; would you suggest to get the proper photoshop?)

I use Paint.net and a few plugins myself.

Hey there. Do you have photoshop? I'd be happy to impart my knowledge, but its all pretty much photoshop based. I've never used gimp.

SO, i did a thing...it took so much more that I thought it would, but I have a guide on how to do one kind of manip.

DISCLAIMER:
I am 1000% self taught in photoshop, as such I do things the way that make sense to me. So there might be a much better way to do things than the way I do them. So, if one of the more legit graphics folk want to correct me, PLEASE do, I welcome refined techniques.

hopefully someone that knows how to use vectors instead the brush tool for creating artificial smoothness will have mercy on us that make sketches with PS?

Totally agree. It just takes that plunge moment. Thats exactly why i made my how-tos (that and im a nerd and actually enjoy documenting technical processes....)
