Please continue this. I liked this story when its first parts were posted years ago and I'm glad you've continued it.

I like what I read so far! ^^ Great job! The story ends rather suddenly, though...I was just wondering if that was because that's all you've written so far, or if the post was too long and it got cut off.

Anyway, great story so far!

A new classic!

Post by BA » Mon Mar 14, 2005 5:40 am

Great story!

I loved the first part when I read it way back... it ended on an evil teaser! You've done a great job following it up, really high quality writing - must have taken you bloody ages!

You hit all the right spots for my taste. I particularly enjoyed Monica's automatic change of awareness / personality on entering the house; geeky tech babes who turn out to be hot is always a winner; attached glasses has been on my mind since I saw Flash Gordon as a kid - nicley done and, of course, lots of shut-downs and maintenance!

Well done for keeping us guessing about Dana for so long. It's become a classic genre twist so I never assume any fit bird characters are human any more. The hints were so subtle I was beginning to wonder so her uncovering was a suprise after all!

Please write more... soon!

BA

Like the others, I enjoyed the first part some time ago, and always wished for someone to continue the line. A wonderful job, and can't wait for the further adventures. Be kind and continue.

Big "Me Too" here. I had all but forgotten this one, though I certainly enjoyed it when it first appeared. It's great to see an old story revisited.

More, please!

Best story I've read in a long time. Looking forward to the next installment.

Finally had a chance to read this one and I have to join in on the praise. Great story, well told!

Serf, your characters are just different enough that you're able to give us a few different angles on robot behavior. Renee's complete matter-of-factness is great -- you manage to make her seem innocent and warm, not cold and lifeless. With Monica (and later Dana) we get to see robots who don't know they're robots, but when they switch to robot mode, again there's a nonchalance about the whole thing that really works well.

I'm also a huge fan of any story that really lets us see robot dialogue, particularly robots talking about being robots. The plentiful dialogue in the story is a major reason it's such a great read.

And one of my favorite moments in the whole thing was your self-referential line after Dana's true identity is revealed, an all-time classic:
Perhaps I was just getting used to this, but I wasn’t all that shocked with this new discovery.
That little wink to the reader made me laugh aloud!

All in all a fun ride that I didn't want to end! Here's hoping that we one day get to meet Dr. Karen. I'm sure she must be working on some very interesting new projects during her summer away! ;)

This is just begging for a smart-@$$ reply:

Party Girl - U2

I know a girl, a girl called party
Party girl
I know she wants more than a party
Party girl
And she won’t tell me her name

I know a boy, a boy called trash
Trash can
I know he does all that he can
Wham bam
And he won’t tell me his name

I have a heart, a heart that’s beating inside
When I was three I thought the world revolved around me
I was wrong
And so I sing along
And if you dance, then dance with me

I know a girl, a girl called party
Party girl
I know she wants more than a party
Party girl
I know a boy, a boy called trampoline
You know what I mean

I think you know what he wants
I think he knows what he wants
I think he knows what he wants

=====

Sorry for the delayed response, but deepest thanks to all who posted about the 'Girls'. Wow!

First things first, I have to give major props to Kishin for his support, advice, not to mention his keen eye. Without his encouragement, this story may not have continued beyond the initial installments a few years ago. Thank you, Kishin.

There is more to tell. How much? I'm not too sure. This really began as my attempt to give back to this community, and show my respect for all who had written, manipped, actively participated on the BBS, etc. Lo and behold, a larger story developed, and the characters grew more and more in my mind. So, I intend to keep it going though it may be at my standard snail's pace.

BA, there's nothing like the hot, nerd babe, especially when she's a bot. Glad you liked the specs bit, too.

Keraptis, I almost cut that line out, but I don't know...Dana's 'discovery' just seemed to warrant such a comment.

Hey, Doug(a smart alecky remark from thee? Psshaww! ), that song entered my thoughts at times during this process, I must admit.

Again, thanks to all. More to come.

I know, Serf...that's hard to believe, huh?

Anyhoo...nice work. Please, scribe on!

Excellent stuff, Serf! - just the kind of story I'm usually looking for here. Hope there's more, is the only notes I have!

The result was unexpected, great story! And I would like to know why and when Dana was created and what Dana did when she back to the dorm every night, if she didn't know she was a robot, how she took rest?

This is such an excellent piece of writing, thanks for keeping it alive. I'm also curious what can happen to the girls. The uncover of Dana is increddible, I would like to know how she would react when she realizes that she really IS a machine.

Great story so far! I'm going to echo the sentiment here and call for an ending!
