Naming: A Resort and a Corporation

Post by dale coba » Mon Feb 02, 2015 7:19 am

I believe we all readily welcome and accept the fact that in a future with fembots, there will be resorts and corporations involved.

What default names do we recognize?

Resorts with names like:
- Westworld (the once and future)
- Futureworld
- Sexworld
(with -world, you also get -land)
- Cyberfem Park

Corporations with names like: The Tyrell Corporation, Spaztec and Dyson Industries.
(Hopefully not Cyberdyne Industries or Omni Consumer Products. Make lovebots, not warbots.)

That's not attempting a proper list, but what I'm getting at is: if video and audio performers have some options we have already kicked around, play-tested, they can use the names so buyers can readily spot what they are getting at.

There's an art to finding winning names. There are many naming forms of robots:
- Fembot [Name]
- [Name] unit
- {Name}bot
- {Name] [number] - luxury car style
- Cyber-[Name]
- Robo-[Name]
- [Name]droid

It's helpful to spread a performer's name around, so these work well in a title.

For Diana, Knight Industries could be a branding opportunity. Sexworld is always available for anyone to use. I encourage video makers to play off of the Westworld themes and name, since HBO will be doing so much publicity for you.

Of course, if you want a techno-patriarchal conspiracy town, there's no place quite like Stepford.

I was torn about Acme.

Did they sell perfectly functional equipment which went wrong every time, only and exactly because of the coyotes karmic nature? Or did their equipment ever just fail?

Perhaps that is how The Acme Corporation should be best used, in situations where the products are perfect but the plots fail because of the plotter.

I don't know enough names of stripper bars, but I think some of the names like Xanadu or Paradise, ... etc, would work. A place name for no real place, on to which they can project what their brand will have to offer. Not like Stepford, a name more exotic to English-hearing ears. Someplace Gauguin would've runoff to. Zanzibar. Kardashian (or Kardassian). Maybe there's a Muse or Greco-Roman Mythos name (which no one would care wasn't a place name to start with). Those names don't bring anything specific about fembots into the mix - but in a world where fembots have arrived, who is going to think that the ad is about anything else?

Xanadu was the moment America knew we could stop paying attention to Olivia Newton-John; so we did, abruptly.

The name Fantasia is liable to stir up the Disney lawyer trolls. Wonderland is safely out of copyright. Playboy and the rest of those titles hold no power any longer. Magic.... Enchantment... Shangri-la... Babylon... but these aren't like the default names I was talking about; they may be used, but they don't cement the context like names such as Cyberdyne.

Although I'm somewhat biased {Willow Bay, Robo / Dolly Depot, and Boomers-R-Us} as far as proper names go, for my money THE ultimate place name for all things fembot was given to us way back in 1968, courtesy a certain Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland! If memory serves, I believe there are a couple manips of mine over on the Wiki that hint at EL, too. 8)

The song would work very well in ads, complementing a different title.

Then again, if I didn't [remember/know of that studio], under what age is there little chance that a person knows about it?

- Electric Ladyland is back on the table.
- Sim-something.
- mush-up product names, viagra/cialis/trojan, i.e. name the park the way pharmaceuticals' names are decided. Cilagra. Trojalis (h sound for j).

Once Florida begins to sink proper, there will be a isolated high points on which to build a park. I've always felt that it was important that there be a last leg of the journey which only park visitors were taking, with no passengers flying on to the next destination. That space is required to transition the mind from the social realities of the real world into the imaginary one the visitors will enjoy.

Well, I've already used the name "Spaztec" in several of my stories. I even had the name of their headquarters called the "Spaztec Temple", a nice pun if I do say so myself.

Just to clarify; "Electric Ladyland" refers both to the album and the title song from same. Jimi's studio was and still is "Electric Lady."

It's all good, R-man! I've been a big BIG Jimi - scholar for over a quarter-century now, and he does still tend to pop up frequently in my leisure activities. I give him a bye though - he dug sci-fi like we all do {Aasimov and Bradbury were his favorite authors}, and both he and his bass player Noel Redding hung out with Leonard Nimoy just after the Monterey Pop Festival. LSS, the friendship with Mr. Spock resulted in Jimi and Noel hooking up with Rhae and Alyce Andrece - the "Alice" androids from "I Mudd." If that doesn't " buy some cred" in this Community, then I'm leaving!!

TheRealMaestro wrote:Films such as Westworld (which I admit I've never watched) seem to be simple theme parks that are staffed by robots. We would see the same thing throughout many service jobs as they become automated, as we are already beginning to see now. What, precisely, makes these 'resorts' anything special?
It's the wish-fulfilment factor, and the issue of how real it seems.

Whereas a theme park might ask staffers to impersonate cute girls from 1875 Texas–with varying degrees of accuracy, based on their acting skills and willingness to immerse themselves–Westworld was a place whose robot inhabitants thought it really was 1875 Texas, and acted like it. You could visit a town that took itself 100% seriously, start a relationship with a beautiful girl who thought she was really an 1875 schoolmarm, barmaid, whore, bandit, Indian princess, or whatever...
So it was ostensibly like traveling back in time to an idealized past, with none of the actual risks involved.

If you were rich enough, I suppose you could stay there; marry an android farm girl, start a farm, and "live" the fake Wild West experience, with the girl never thinking more of it than "this is the cutest guy I've ever met since 1870... but what's this 'TV' thing he always talks about, and why is he worried about running out of money?" She thinks it's real, she doesn't know she's fake, and the sex is (hopefully) great.
